The Institute for the Testing of Materials, more popular as IMS, which has been active for more than eighty years, is the oldest scientific and research institution in Serbia.
It was the prestressed skeletal system consisting of prefabricated reinforced concrete elements that earned the Institute its international reputation as it served to build hundreds of thousand flats in the former SFR Yugoslavia and all over the world. Today, the Institute for the Testing of Materials is taking part in almost all the major construction enterprises in Serbia, being involved in the stages of design, control, testing and supervision. Ever since it was founded, the IMS Institute has been housed in a building at 43 Bulevar vojvode Mišića street. The Institute’s main building was designed by Josif Najman - the author of many representative buildings in Belgrade.
