The new cemetery was first found on the plan of Belgrade from 1884, on the place where it is still located today, and it was arranged and opened in 1886. It is one of the oldest cemeteries in Belgrade and is the first planned city burial space.
Today, after more than a century of its existence, the New Cemetery represents a historical monument and memorial of special importance for national history and culture. This year, visitors will have a unique opportunity to visit the military cemeteries: Austro-Hungarian, French, Italian and Bulgarian, that are usually closed for the public.
