→ start: Kosančićev venac, Velike stepenice (Grand Staircase), by the Austrian Embassy and the French Embassy
A thematic walking tour on a pleasant May evening is intended for lovers of Belgrade's urban history and walking. We will be walking along the route of Venac, the former Trench of the Belgrade town (Varoš).
Unlike most European cities, which have formed boulevards, viales or rings along their former city walls, the city of Belgrade recently saw the development of promenades with the application of new pavement and equipment. During the tour we will connect the former Sava, Varoš, Stambol, Vidin and Timișoara gates, as well as the Sava and the Danube gates; we will pass the Kosančićev, Topličin and Obilićev venac districts, the Trg republike square, the Skadarlija district and Strahinjića Bana street, all the way to the Dorćol district; we will talk about the visible and invisible traces of urban past and comment on the contemporary projects of the restoration of surfaces, pavements and urban equipment.
